An avid outdoor explorer, Cory Silken's main photographic and outdoor interest lies in boating. Whether paddling the shores of Hawaii on a kayak or cruising Nantucket on a superyacht, he is at home on the water. He has crewed aboard the classic America’s Cup 12 Meter fleet in Newport, Rhode Island and currently enjoys racing Firefly, an S Class boat, on Narragansett Bay. For his fine art images, Silken combines his passion for photography and love of sailing to document and preserve the grace of classic yachts, and convey the real thrill of sailboat racing. He has quickly become established with his ability to fuse serenity with adventure in the inspiring scenes he captures. Silken’s award winning fine art images are never posed or set up; rather, they are special images, each a unique vantage point which portrays the dynamic range of light and life on the water. Silken studied Environmental Science and Economics at Boston University. He now travels throughout the world for personal work and assignments, and his sailing photographs have been published worldwide. He has recently started Silken Publishing, a publishing company featuring calendars, posters, note cards, bags, and other gifts of fine photographs. Silken has a broad photographic background which ranges to very technical fine art reproduction slides, beautiful family portraiture, live concert photography, educational photography, and photojournalism. This varied experience gives him an excellent creative palette to approach new photographic assignments from a unique perspective. |
